Since we now are a family of five, we needed to either move the two older girls into a bedroom together or eliminate our guest bedroom and have a room for each of the girls. We decided to move the girls into a bedroom together because my friend, Pam Nolan, told me a story a few years ago that has always stuck with me. She had heard someone on the radio talk about how siblings growing up nowadays aren't as close as siblings were 20+ years ago. Their theory was that since people have bigger houses now, most siblings grow up having their own room. Whereas siblings growing up together 20+ years ago had to share rooms together which often drew them closer. Whether or not that is true, we loved the idea of having our girls grow up together in the same room. Jason has a lot of special memories sleeping in the same room with his brother Josh (clowning around, drawing on each other's backs, etc), so we decided to try it out for our girls!
Dean Hunt was one of our mentor leaders in our old community group and built us a bunk bed for the girls and he did an AMAZING job! He designed the bunk bed to match the furniture in Taylor's room, even down to the trim detail. We had no idea that the bunk bed was going to turn out as nice as it did, so we were all very excited!
Here are some pictures of the bunk bed:

Last Sunday we moved the girls into their bunk bed right before their afternoon nap. This was Addison's first time to be out of the crib and into a big girl bed, so we weren't exactly sure how successful this nap was going to be..................... and we ended up being correct in our concern!
The girls did not sleep one wink during their nap time! They talked to each other, sang songs (like "Happy Birthday"), cried because they weren't tired, and did everything you can think of to avoid sleeping. We had just gotten a new monitor that allows us now to "talk back" to the girls through it (which was the BEST investment ever), so we were continually reprimanding the girls when they were not going to sleep. At one point, Addie had gotten out of bed and Taylor yelled at her in a whisper (so we wouldn't hear her) "Hurry Addie! They are poming, they are poming (a.k.a. coming)!!!" Even Taylor started to threaten Addie when she got out of bed by saying "Get in bed Addie or mommy and daddy will be mad!" It was pretty hilarious to watch their charades through the monitor, and after 2 hours of non-sleeping, we finally let them get up.

Well, they must have been so exhausted that evening from not having a nap that day, they went right to sleep when we put them down to bed. And since then, we've had absolutely zero issues (besides Addie falling out of her bed once, but she recovered nicely)!
We are excited for the girls to share a room and for the special memories that they'll make together!
